We
are sure that you understand that NetCFax is a very powerful, and
therefore complex suite of software applications that work together to
create the NetCFax Networked fax system.
We work very hard to
ensure that all aspects of our software are as fully tested as it is
possible for any software developer to achieve. To ensure it is as
updated as possible, we ship regular upgrades, most of which are
totally free to registered customers, so please bookmark this page and
check it regularly.
We welcome reports of any
possible problems that you may encounter, and will always listen
carefully and investigate all such reports.
We also welcome comments
and suggestions for improvements to the products. We are also
willing to add "one off" features on a consultancy basis if
you feel you need something special that is not a feature that can be
justified commercially.
The items listed below
have been added SINCE the last public release, and are ALL in the
current public release(s) dated March 25, 2008.
ALL VERSIONS
PDF
creation and attaching PDF files to emails
A bug has
been discovered, and subsequently fixed, that could cause the
fax server to fail to create PDF copies of the received faxes.
This has now
been corrected with the release of the 3.xx.2.2 releases on
March 25, 2008.
ALL VERSIONS
Fax
Server
reliability and stability
A nasty bug has
been discovered, and subsequently fixed, that could cause the
fax server to close down, but the Windows event log would only
report "HungApp" with no other information.
In our own tests this fix has resulted in the fax server proving
to be extremely stable.
ALL VERSIONS
BUG - Fax Server control over client
logins that are not in use
The Fax Server has
an option that lets you force the logout and disconnection of
any fax client that has been TOTALLY inactive for more
than the number of minutes specified, but this was not working
as intended. It now works exactly ass it should.
Pro & PRO+ VERSIONS ONLY
BUG - Fax Server controller's modems
display
The list of fax
modems shown in the Fax Server Controller are now correctly
updated when any modem switches to being in use or back to Idle.
It also now shows changes made to modem settings on the fax
server itself.
PRO+ ONLY
ENHANCEMENT - Fax client assignment of
received faxes
Access by the Fax
Clients to the Received faxes routing/assignment window has now
been made a little easier for login accounts that do not have full NetCFax login
access rights but the fax server is configured to allow these to
assign/route received faxes. There is now an
"assign/route received faxes" option on the
"Options" menu of the Faxes cabinet. This is
only enabled if the Received faxes drawer is currently open.
ALL VERSIONS
ENHANCEMENT - Search in received drawer of
fax client cabinet
The Fax
Clients search feature now lists the fax file name in the
results list. It also now removes the unused "Recipient
Company" column, as that data is not available with
received faxes.
PRO+ ONLY
BUG - OCR Filtering system
A small bug was
identified, and fixed, that could cause incorrect matching by
the OCR filtering system. This would only occur if you had
multiple words/phrases in a match phrase (in other words a
complex match).
ALL VERSIONS
BUG - Fax deletion did not remove fax from
hard disk
If the Fax server
was configured to NOT use the fax recycle bin system, and a fax
was deleted by a client, it was removed form the fax database
system correctly, but the original file(s) were not always being
deleted from the hard disk.
This bug has now
been fixed...
ALL VERSIONS
ENHANCEMENT - Fax client cabinet color
coding
The Fax Client now
uses the same color for the progress "slider" bar as
the color of the current drawer tab. This helps to
simplify immediate identification of the current open drawer and
the type of faxes being viewed.
ALL VERSIONS
ENHANCEMENT - Notifications if a server
auto print fails
The Fax Client now
receives a warning message in the activity log if the fax server
is unable to print a fax at any time for whatever reason.
The fax server now also writes a log of these errors.
PRO+ ONLY
BUG - Fax recycling bin system
Several small
problems with the NetCFax private fax recycling bin system have
been identified and corrected. These bugs could have caused
strange fax drawer totals, duplicated faxes in cabinet lists and
other strange side effects.
PRO+ ONLY
ENHANCEMENT - Fax server purging system
We have now added
an option to the fax server's purging options window to allow
the system to automatically purge the OCR text copies of
received faxes to allow you to maintain control over the size of
the contents of this folder if you use the OCR scanning feature
of PRO+.
Pro &
PRO+ ONLY
ENHANCEMENT - Fax services controller
We have now added
an option to the menu of the NetCFax Services Controller that
lets you run the Windows Services Applet directly from the
Actions menu.
ALL VERSIONS
ENHANCEMENT - Fax modem selection by
clients
The Fax Clients
now have an option on the fax defaults window to specify which
fax modem is to be used as the default modem when creating new
faxes or resending a fax. This setting is saved separately
for each login account.
ALL VERSIONS
ENHANCEMENT - Fax client adress books
system
The Fax Clients
now have an option on the 2nd fax creation wizard window to save
the fax sender details they enter directly into their personal
address books. Using this will overwrite any existing previous
details, but the option allows to quickly save these for future
use without having to open the address book specially to do so.
A bug in the
address books system was also discovered and fixed. This was
only seen normally if you are using server based address books,
and you tried to save personal details only to the server, when
you had no personal address book entries. The result was
that the next time you logged in, those personal details were
not there for you.
ALL VERSIONS
ENHANCEMENT - the windows Event log system
is now
also used to report status or problems.
The Fax Server and
the Clients
now write status information, warnings and errors to the
Windows Application Event Log system on all versions of (NT
based) Windows that support this. (NB under Windows Vista, the
client will not normally do so due to the UAC system blocking
such logging for some wholly unimaginable and impenetratable
reason, although you can still override this if you really wish
to via a registry setting our support engineers will provide to
you. If you decide you really do want to use this, you may well
get all the standard Microsoft "blurb" about the
required resources file not being available, although it
certainly is, but the actual reason we provide for the entry
will still be at the bottom of all the unwanted Microsoft
'blurb')
ALL VERSIONS
ENHANCEMENT - Fax Server command line
system
The Fax Server
Command line processor system now maintains a cache
of the command files for successfully processed and
scheduled command line faxes, to allow you to check what faxes
were sent, and what they should have included.
ALL VERSIONS
ENHANCEMENT - Departments
The configuration
window for creating and maintaining NetCFax login accounts now provides a new and special
checkbox that only applies to login accounts that are also
assigned as
members of a department. As long as the account does not have
administrator rights, or full received faxes access rights, this
new
option allows you to override that login accounts automatic
access to the received faxes belonging to that department, which
are usually accessible to all members of a department.
This provides yet more power and control over fax access within
NetCFax.
ALL VERSIONS
ENHANCEMENT - Fax client appearance
The buttons on the
client main window now use different colors for the modems on
each button, and this color "coding" scheme is now
carried through to the cabinet tabs and even to the top two
lines of the fax details pane, making it very much easier to
rapidly identify the type of faxes you are looking at or working
with.
ALL VERSIONS
ENHANCEMENT - Fax client security
To avoid the
problems that will occur if anyone tries to start and run a fax
client across the network directly (without using an FTS or RDP
session etc) the client now checks the path for any UNC path and
if identified, refuses to start the client.
ALL VERSIONS
ENHANCEMENT - Login account access groups
A new predefined
access group has been added to the system on the fax server.
This is called "Send Faxes Only", and as it's name
implies, assigning any login account to this group means
they are only allowed to work with their own (not other peoples)
outgoing faxes. This naturally allows them to use the fax
printer to create faxable data, access both the local and
servers shard address book, and it allows them to view ANY OF
THEIR OWN OUTGOING FAXES in the fax cabinet, no matter if they
are in the Pending, Failed or Sent drawers.
The entire Received faxes drawer and quite naturally access to
all of the received faxes functionality is disabled for any
login account that belongs to this access group.
This allows the
fax administrator even more flexibility when assigning login
accounts to individuals whom they do not want to have the
ability to access any of the outgoing faxes owned by other
accounts or any of the received faxes held on the system.
ALL VERSIONS
BUG - Fax printer selection system
We have added some
logic that was discovered to be "missing" in the
Printer selection system. This meant that previously the default
printer in the printer selection list would sometimes be the
Windows Default printer, and NOT the NetCFax default printer, as
it should have been.
ALL VERSIONS
BUG - Fax server auto purging system
We have corrected
a bug in the auto purging system that could effect the fax
counts for the cabinet drawers.
ALL VERSIONS
BUG - Fax client resend system
We have identified and corrected
a bug in the fax client's resend system. This bug was proved to
be able to cause the wrong fax to be resent when you select and resend
several previously Sent or Failed faxes one after the other using the
Resend button. This was occurring because the data that was loaded into
the Wizard window could sometimes be incorrect, as it was the data from
the PREVIOUS fax that had been resent. This no longer occurs.
ALL VERSIONS
BUG - Received drawer sorting on the fax
client
We received
a bug report after shipping the previous version connected to the fax client's
cabinet. It was discovered that after the removal of a column as
documented above on that tab, the column could not be sorted by
Date. This has been corrected.
This problem only affected the Received drawer, none of the other
drawers had this problem.
PRO+
ONLY
BUG - Fax -> PDF conversion system
We have identified and corrected
a bug in automatic conversion of received faxes to PDF
files. This bug also effected the addition of the fax name and
time/date stamp to the PDF file name. In previous releases, the
file was actually saved as another TIF file instead of a PDF, and no
other details were included in the file name.
