Fax Server -
v3.16 (Shipped Mar 1 2007)
|
 |
Pro
& PRO+ versions - The Fax Server can now be installed
and run as a Windows Service as well as a desktop application.
|
 |
Pro
& later versions - The fax client cabinet can now
select whether they want to use color in the lists of faxes, in
addition to using it in the details pane.
|
 |
Pro
& later versions - The fax client cabinet now simply
repaints the relevant panel when the (use of) color in the fax
lists or the details panel options are changed, rather than
refreshing the entire cabinet drawer.
|
 |
PRO
v3 & PRO+ v3.60 only
- The Thumbs
viewer provided with the NetCFax Fax Client now allows you
to
make permanent changes to faxes, such as rotating upside
pages correctly. If you are viewing a single or multi page fax using a NetCFax
client, Pro & PRO+ both allow you rotate
any pages 180 degrees (to correct an upside down fax) , Flip top
to bottom or side to side and even invert the image (to a
negative). When you go to change to a different file or to close
the Thumbs viewer you are prompted you to see if you want to save the
changed fax back the fax server.
The Thumbs viewer provides these features with both single and
multi page faxes. Only the Pro v3.1 and PRO+ v3.60 Fax client
releases save data back to the server, All of the NetCFax
servers and the 2.7 NetCFax client do not do so.
|
 |
PRO
v3 & PRO+ v3.60 only - The received drawer
of the fax clients cabinet now automatically downloads and
caches (stores locally) the first xx received faxes listed. This allows much faster viewing of all faxes that
are cached. The number to be downloaded can be configured, as
can the auto deletion of these cached files on logout or
closedown. Normally all
cached data is always deleted when a client logs out for
additional security, but this can also be reset to not delete
the cached files.
|
 |
All
versions - All of the outgoing drawers of the clients
Fax cabinet now have a context menu option that lets you filter
the faxes list to show only those faxes that are owned by the
current login account very quickly. You can also just
press the "O" key when the focus is in the faxes list
to do this.
Only login accounts that have NetCFax "Administrator"
rights have this option available, as individual accounts cannot
see other peoples outgoing faxes anyway.
|
 |
All
versions - Each NetCFax client login account can now
select and retain their own default printer selection.
This is now saved as a part of each of the login account
configuration system, including when using Roaming Profiles.
|
| |
Fax Server -
v3.16 (ShippedMarch 25, 2008)
|
 |
v3.12
- and later - Automatic fax client updates
This system provides a quick and easy way for all fax
clients to be running the latest version of the software at all
times.
The client checks with the server whenever you login, and if a
newer client upgrade version is available, it offers to
download and install this for you automatically.
|
 |
v3.12
- and later - The new "Information vault"
This provides quick and structured access to all of the
information files provided with NetCFax. It provides an
easy to use standard Windows Explorer style tree structure down
the left hand side, containing a complete list of all available
information.
All you have to do is click a topic in the tree and the right
hand side viewer will show you the contents of that information
file.
|
 |
v3.12
- and later - Using the current Windows login details for Fax
client login.
We have added a special configuration option that needs to
be set up by the fax administrator that forces the fax client to
always pre-fill the details in the login window with the details
used by the current user to login to Windows.
This is useful if you prefer to have your networked users using
their own personal Windows login details across all of the
software they run on their machines.
|
 |
v3.12
- and later - Automatic creation of Visitor accounts by the Fax
client
We have added a new login option button labeled "Login
(Visitor)".
To use this, just enter your full name in the login name field
and click the button. (You do not need to enter a
password). The client will ask the fax server to create a
special Visitor account, and if successful, the client logs in
automatically using this.
Visitor accounts cannot change basic settings, although they can
configure their own preference if they wish to do so. Once a
Visitor account logs out, the entire configuration system, plus
any address details or personal data entered is destroyed.
The Fax Server also destroys all record of the account, but any
faxes sent will of course still be in the system, and accessible
to those with Administrator rights.
|
| |
Fax Server -
v3.12 (March 1, 2007)
|
 |
v3.12
- and later - Support for Window XP Pro with Fast Task Switching
and restricted Windows login accounts.
The fax client (and server) are fully "Terminal
Services aware" now, so that they can be used under Windows
XP correctly. The Fax server MUST be run using a Windows
login account with administrator rights, but the fax client can
be run by any login account on the machine. This
additional support corrects the printing problems seen by
Restricted account users in previous releases.
|
 |
v3.00.7
- and later PRO VERSIONS ONLY - Attaching PDF files
to email notifications
The fax server can now be configured to attach the PDF
copies of received faxes if you prefer to do this. This
setting applies to ALL email notifications.
|
 |
v3.00.7
- and later PRO VERSIONS ONLY - support for Departmental
PDF folders added
The fax server now allows you to specify a special folder
for copies of the PDF files created by the fax server.
This allows you to have separate folders for these PDF files
based on the phone line / COM port they were received on.
|
 |
v3.00.7
- and later PRO VERSIONS ONLY - Fax client automatic re-login after a disconnection
The fax client now has an option that lets it
automatically attempt to re-login to
the last fax server, using the last login account in use, after a delay of 10 seconds from when it is
disconnected. The total attempts the system will make can
also be configured.
This system supports both Local and Roaming profiles.
|
 |
v3.00.7
- Fax client installation improvement
The fax client now provides an option on the "configure
available fax servers" window to perform an auto scan of the local network
(only) looking for all
available fax servers, and this will automatically add any fax
servers found within 10 seconds to the list of
servers.
|
 |
v3.00.7
- Dialing rules system
This system will now accept and process phone numbers
with periods between the number groups, such as
+1.(727).392.3216 and 123.4567 correctly.
|
 |
v3.00.7
- Server fax activity log
We have significantly improved the logging of fax activity
to make it even clearer exactly what activity the server is
involved in, and what is happening with any particular fax at
any point in time.
|
 |
v3.00.7
- Fax SERVER and CLIENT Printer installations
We have rewritten the printer installation system so that it
can now install the fax printer driver on virtually all Windows
systems including Windows 23K servers and Windows
98, Windows ME, Windows 2000 (+ server), and Windows XP (with or
without service packs).
The new release also checks the list of installed printers to
ensure you do have a printer installed automatically.
|
 |
v3.00.7
- Setting the default NetCFax Printer
We have now provided an option on the default printer
configuration window of the fax clients (not the fax server)
that lets you decide if you always want be prompted to select
the printer that is to be used when using the Print buttons of
Print options on the Context menus in NetCFax.
By default this option is enabled so that you are always asked
to select the printer. If you uncheck it, NetCFax will then
always use the printer you have specified as the NetCFax default
printer (Not necessarily the Window's default printer)
|
 |
v3.00.7
- and later PRO VERSIONS ONLY -
ROAMING PROFILES - Fax client's Auto startup options
These have now been enhanced to add the ability to configure
each client installation so that it can auto login to a fax
server using a Roaming Profile (instead of) using the local
profile.
|
| |
Fax Server - v3.00.6 (Released
November 6, 2005)
|
 |
v3.00.6.2
- and later PRO VERSIONS ONLY -
ROAMING PROFILES
The NetCFax system has now been enhanced in several ways to
provide even more flexibility to the roaming profiles system.
When you create or update a roaming profile, you can now specify
that you want to also save your address book and personal
details to the server. This will automatically change the
settings in your roaming profile so that this address book data
is also downloaded from the server whenever you use the roaming
profile.
Also, if you have multiple NetCFax servers on your network, they
can now exchange these roaming profiles with other servers
in addition to the address book data they can already exchange.
|
 |
v3.00.6
- and later PRO VERSIONS ONLY
A "Thumbnails" fax preview window is now
provided
on the main fax creation window.
We have now
provided a thumbnails viewer that lets you view and check all of
the attached pages of a fax before you send it. (This shows all
"attached pages" and does NOT show the cover page
itself).
|
 |
v3.00.6
- and later PRO VERSIONS ONLY
You can now enter multiple recipient fax numbers
directly in the fax # field of the main fax creation window.
We have now
provided support for the entry of several different recipient
fax numbers in the TO fax # field. UP to 255 characters
are accepted, and all you need to do is to separate each number
from the previous number with a semi colon.
|
 |
v3.00.6
- and later PRO VERSIONS ONLY
More control over
sent/failed fax notifications
(for login accounts with
ADMINISTRATOR rights) -
We have now
provided a new option on the clients Sent/Failed faxes
configuration window to allow you to configure each client to
only show these notifications if the fax is owned by that login
account.
Previously, login accounts with Administrator right would always
receive ALL of these notifications.
|
 |
v3.00.6
- and later PRO VERSIONS ONLY
We have now introduced a thumbnails
viewer that
can be used to view received faxes quickly and easily
This
viewer can be displayed from the main menu if required, or by
using the "Thumbs" button on the received faxes
tab. It can be set so that it is automatically
"linked" to the received faxes list of both the server
and the fax clients, so that as you select faxes in the received
list, they are automatically displayed in the Thumbs Viewer.
TIF, BMP, PNG, JPG, DCX and GIF files can also be dropped onto
the viewer form Explorer for viewing if required. The
viewer can also print single pages or all of the pages of a
received fax, and these same faxes can be saved to a different
folder, and even be converted to any of these same types of
image formats, plus they can even be converted and saved as a PDF.
|
 |
v3.00.6
- and later PRO VERSIONS ONLY
SUPPORT FOR SAP ERP added to Email-to-Fax
Gateway system
To
allow user of SAP ERP to send emails directly to NetCFax (SMTP
or POP3 systems), we have added support to "acquire"
the recipient fax number from the "To:" header line of
the email.
This means you do not have to add our own FAXTO:NUMBER line into
the email to have NetCFax send this email out as a fax.
This allows SAP to use NetCFax for all faxing requirements with
no modifications needed.
If you still do include the FAXTO:NUMBER in the NetCFax command section of
the email body, it will REPLACE any fax number found
in the TO: line of the mail.
|
 |
v3.00.6
- and later PRO VERSIONS ONLY
DIALING RULES SYSTEM FURTHER IMPROVED
To
allow you to handle special dialing requirements we
have added advanced filtering lists to the dialing rules system
in NetCFax Pro.
This lets you list both local area codes, (7 digit dials in the
USA), and wide area codes (10 digit dials in the USA), that may
need additional dialing codes such as prefixing with 9. It lets you create separate lists of local
area codes and wide area codes and to specify what extended dialing codes
should be used
with these alone.
|
 |
v3.00.6
- and later PRO VERSIONS ONLY
MACRO replacements in cover pages text
To allow you
the maximum flexibility when sending faxes out to broadcast
lists, The NetCFax server can now (if the system is enabled)
replace macros in the cover page text of %%FORENAME%%,
%%SURNAME%%, %%FULLNAME%%, %%SENDER%% and %%COMPANY%% with the
relevant information from the broadcast list (if there is
no recipient name, it will replace %%xxxNAME%% with Sir)
The Fax server controls whether this option is enabled, and the
clients cannot change it.
|
 |
v3.00.6
- and later PRO VERSIONS ONLY
ACTIVITY LOGGING
Because some people do not particularly want to see the
activity log panes updated on the screen all the time, there is
now an option to stop the system maintaining these lists in both
the server and the client main windows.
However, all of this logging is of course still written to the
log files as normal, so you can always check these to see what
has happened. This is also useful if you have a slower
machine, or a very busy fax server, as disabling these lists
frees the processor from having to update them all the
time.
|
 |
v3.00.6
- and later PRO VERSIONS ONLY
DIALING RULES SYSTEM ADDED
To handle
problem with incompletely entered fax numbers, or incorrectly
entered numbers such as those that are missing Area Codes or
toll call prefixes, or even have them and do not need them, we
have added our own dialing rules system to NetCFax Pro
This of course lets you list all local area codes that do NOT
need any additional dialing code (7 digit dials in the
USA). It also lets you create a separate list of local
area codes together with the extended dialing code to be used
with them. This second list allows you to easily force 10
digit dialing for any area code you wish.
Finally, you can specify the toll call prefix that is to be
used. The server applies this checking (if enabled) to all
faxes it schedules to be sent, and the system not only adds area
codes and toll prefixes if required, but it also removes them if
they are NOT required according to the rules you have set up.
This system will handle all "canonical" dial numbers
such as those with '+' signs before the toll call prefixes,
Parenthesis around the area code (727) and hyphens and multiple
spaces if these are entered in a number.

Fax Server
& Client - v3.0.5 (Pro) (Released
September 28, 2005)
|
 |
v2.65.7
& v3.00.7
Improved CSV import to address books
To handle non
standard CSV formatted data, NetCFax now performs more checks
and tries to import more formats of CSV data than before.
|
 |
v2.65.6
& v3.00.6
Improved address book system
To
make this system even easier to use, there is now an option on
all tabs of the server and client Address books Property sheet
that lets you switch between displaying either the individuals
name or the company in the left hand list box. Quick
search has also been added that lets you start typing a name (or
company) and the list will track each key stroke and highlight
the nearest match in the list automatically.
|
 |
v2.65.6
& v3.00.6
JUNK FAX FILTERING
To make this even more effective,
there is now an option on the Junk Fax filtering system to have
the server check for matches immediately it receives the remote
sender's CSID (station identity). If a match is made, the
server will immediately disconnect the remote fax system without
even accepting the fax.
By design, this does not notify the remote sender, it simply
disconnects the NetCFax modem, which is "hopefully"
eve more annoying to the sender as they will not know why they
were not able to send their unsolicited garbage to you, so will
probably waste more of their time performing further and still
futile resends.
|
 |
v2.65.6
& v3.00.6
JUNK FAX FILTERING
To assist in making junk fax
matches to spam fax senders using CSID's such as "MORTGAGE
4" and MORTGAGE 7" etc, You can now configure the
system to perform substring matching on the CSID received.
This means that a single junk fax entry in your list of MORTGAGE
would hit both the above examples
|
| |
Fax Server
& Client - v3.0.4 (Pro) (Released
September 5, 2005)
|
 |
v2.65.4
& v3.00.4
RECEIVING FAXES PROBLEMS
We have now identified an
issue with receiving faxes that was most usually seen if you
happen to be using a Class 2.0 fax modem.
This problem could cause the activity logging of fax activity
(only) to cease entirely, and of course, no auto printing of the
fax, or email or other notifications were sent. It was
even possible for the server to stop picking up incoming calls
to receive further faxes. This was pinned down to a
problem with the way Class 2.0 modems complete the fax protocol.
This problem
is fixed in 2.65.4 and 3.00.4 releases...
|
 |
v2.65.4
& v3.00.4
FAX CLIENT CONNECTIONS
To make logging into a fax
server on your local network as simple as possible, the Fax
server now regularly broadcasts the TCP port it is using
for client connections. If running, the Fax clients will
update their own configuration automatically so that they will
use the new TCP port. The fax clients do not need to be
logged in to receive these broadcasts.
|
 |
v3.00.4
FAX ACTIVITY LOGGING
To provide a feature similar to
the "Journal" log printed out from time to time by
many fax machines, NetCFax now maintains a similar faxes journal
log that contains details of all Sent, failed and received faxes
in strict chronological sequence. This log is also
accessible at any time from the fax clients via an option on
their "View" menu irrespective of login rights.
|
 |
v3.00.4
SUPPORT FOR COMMAND LINE FAXING
To allow
different applications to use the NetCFax server to create and
send faxes in the simplest possible manner, we have now added
support for "command line faxing". This system
uses a simple DOS style command line with one or more
parameters, or a text based control file that contains these
same parameters, and which should be able to be created
easily by most other applications. This file is then passed to
our FAXCMD Command Line Utility program as it's single
parameter. FAXCMD processes and validates the contents and then
passes the data and any included files to the NetCFax
server. The server parses the file and if all data is
valid, creates a fax and sends it for you. This can be run
on any Windows PC on your network, as you only have to specify
the full UNC path the fax server installation folder, as FAXCMD
then handles copying all data to the fax server machine for you.
|
 |
v3.00.4
IMPROVED DRAG & DROP FUNCTIONALITY
To allow
different types of files to be dragged from Window's
Explorer to the fax server or client windows ready to be faxed,
we have now added support that allows you to drag more and
different types of files onto the system. NetCFax passes
any that are "unknown data types" to whatever
application is configured in your Windows system to handle these
types of files, and have them "print" their data to
the fax printer for you automatically.
If a file type cannot be handled by this system, NetCFax will
wait up to 15 seconds, and then offer to try to open the relevant
application to let you print it to the fax printer yourself.
|
| |
Fax Server
& Client - v3.0.3 (Pro)
|
 |
v3.00.3
REAL TIME FAX MONITORING on Fax Client
To provide a
facility to allow fax clients to see changes that are occurring
in the fax cabinet of the fax server they are connected to in
REAL TIME, there is now a fax server cabinet monitor
window available from the faxes menu of the client. This
window is maintained and updated in real time by the fax
server.
|
 |
v3.00.3
RECEIVED FAX NOTIFICATIONS on Fax Client
To provide
an instantaneous indicator when a fax is received, the fax
clients now have a secondary automatic indicator system that
notifies them when a fax is received. This flashes a message in
the main client window's status bar, and in the status panel of
the fax cabinet window. The default "fax
received" sound can also be played, and if required, the
fax cabinet window (if already open or iconized) can be forced
to the front of all other windows as well. Each fax client
can enable or disable these options as they prefer.
|
 |
v3.00.3
FAX COUNTS on Fax Client
To provide an instantaneous
indicator of the faxes available on any fax server, the fax
clients now have count fields at the bottom of the main window
showing to total number of Pending, Sent, Failed and Received
faxes held by the fax server you are connected to. These
counts are updated automatically every 10 seconds.
|
 |
v3.00.3
FAX DELETION CONTROL
To provide the fax server
administrator with the maximum control over the faxes held by
the server, they can now configure the fax server to control the
deletion of any faxes (by the connected fax clients) to ONLY
those login accounts that have full administrator access
rights. In addition, they can specify individually which
types of faxes are to be controlled by this limitation if
required. (Pending, Sent, Failed or Received) independently.
|
| |
Fax Server
& Client - v3.0.2 (Pro) & later
|
 |
v3.00.2
ROAMING LOGIN PROFILES
To provide the maximum flexibility and ease of use of any available NetCFax fax client when connecting from different client PC's, and possibly even to different fax servers, we have introduced what we are calling "ROAMING LOGIN PROFILES"
These allow you to save the entire configuration system of any fax
client you are using to the fax server you are logged into. Once you have created a roaming profile, you can use the "Login (Roaming)" rather than the "Login (Normal)" button on the fax client login window of ANY FAX CLIENT you choose to use, and instantly have your entire personal fax client configuration downloaded and used when you login to the fax server. This means that you no longer have to worry about what the settings are in the default (local profile) settings, or any other preferences that you may have set up in your personal fax client, as they will all be there on any fax client you sit down and use, irrespective of the machine you use.
Naturally, the fax servers have the ability to be configured to support, or not support this feature, and this can be changed at any time.
|
 |
v3.00.2
PRINTING FAXES
Both the fax
server and the fax clients can now select multiple faxes to be
printed at one time from any drawer of the fax cabinet.
|
 |
v3.00.1
ROUTING RECEIVED
FAXES
Both the fax
server and the fax clients (accounts with administrator rights
only) can now route any received faxes to both individuals and
even to complete fax access groups, and add a short
"comment" to any of those faxes. This comment is
limited to 500 characters.
The routing system allows any individual to view and handle any
received fax that has been routed to them, even if their login
account does not have received fax access rights. If a fax
is assigned to a group, ALL members of that group are able to
view and work with the fax.
|
 |
v3.00.1
FORWARDING RECEIVED
FAXES
Both the fax server and the fax clients can now
manually forward any of the received faxes they have access to
(by fax) to another fax system. This is in addition to the
automatic forwarding of received faxes that can be configured on
the fax server, so any received fax can be manually faxed on to
someone else at any time. This system also lets you add a
comment to the received fax so you can note the forwarding
information.
|
 |
v3.00
- SENDING OF FAXES
All outgoing faxes (that are not
just cover page faxes) are now named with a more understandable
fax file name. This system uses any/all of the fax senders name,
the recipient
fax # and the fax recipients name (in that sequence), and
then combines these (providing at least one or more is
available) into a file name, replacing all spaces with dashes (
- ), and separating each field of data with an under bar ( _
).
eg: sales-dept_+1-998-234-4851_prospective_purchaser.tif
As can be seen by the above example, this helps you to rapidly
identify a fax by the faxable file name alone.
|
 |
v3.00
- PRINTING OF FAXES
All faxes can now be printed
very much more easily from the faxes cabinet of both the fax
server and the fax clients. Both have context menus
offering the options to print cover page only, attached pages
only, the entire fax, or just a transmission report, and the
client also now had a Print menu.
|
 |
v3.00
- RECEIVED FAXES OPTIONS
All of the received faxes
options have now been grouped together on a single Property
sheet to make accessing and checking
them very much easier. This is accessed from a single option on the Tools
menu.
|
 |
v3.00
- AUTO EMAIL FORWARDING (OF FAXES RECEIVED)
Received
faxes can now be sent to different email addresses based on the
CSID (remote fax ID) that has sent it. Any faxes received
whose CSID is not specified in this system are sent to the
default email recipient(s) (if configured)
|
 |
v3.00
- AUTO FAX FORWARDING (OF FAXES RECEIVED)
Received
faxes can now be forwarded to another specified fax number based on the
CSID (remote fax ID) that has sent it. Only faxes received
whose CSID are specified in this system are forwarded on
by fax.
This feature can be used in addition to the email forwarding of
faxes received as shown above.
|
 |
v3.00
- AUTO EMAIL FORWARDING ( OF FAXES RECEIVED)
All
received faxes can now be forwarded by email to a specified
recipient based totally on the phone line (COM port) it
was received on. This option, if enabled, will override
all other received fax email notifications.
|
 |
v3.00
- FAX
VIEWERS
Both the
Fax Server and the Fax Client's now have the ability to select any other graphics application
that is installed on that machine to be
used as the
default fax viewer that is to be used whenever you click the
"View Fax" buttons on the fax cabinet drawers.
NetCFax automatically searches and lists all applications that
are capable of allowing you to view and print fax (TIF)
files, such as
Kodak imaging, Kodak Preview, Paint Shop Pro, Microsoft paint and Internet Explorer.
|
 |
v3.00
- MODEMS
In case
you were wondering, NetCFax does not limit the number of modems
you may have connected to the Fax Server PC, as we allow you to use
as many modems as your PC and Windows operating system can
support.
|
 |
v3.00
- SEND
TO
Both the fax
server and Fax Clients can now automatically add a "Send
To" entry to the standard context menu in Windows Explorer
to let you quickly and easily create a fax from any plain ASCII
text files. The NetCFax 'SendTo' system even allows you to
use it to create
faxes rapidly from both TIF and PDF files.
|
 |
v3.00
- DRAG
AND DROP
The main
application windows of both the Fax Server and the Fax Clients now
support "Drag & Drop" of suitable files from
Windows Explorer
to let you quickly and easily create a fax from any plain ASCII
text files. This feature
supports the "dropping" of ASCII text files,
plus TIF (TIFF) and PDF
files.
|
 |
v3.00
- DRAG
AND DROP
The fax
cabinet windows of both the Fax Server and the Fax Clients now
support "Drag & Drop" of suitable files from
Windows Explorer
to let you quickly and easily create a fax from any plain ASCII
text files. This feature
supports the "dropping" of ASCII text files,
plus TIF (TIFF) and PDF
files.
|
 |
v3.00
- AUTO
NOTIFICATIONS
When the
Fax client's log in, the fax
server now notifies the Fax Clients of the TCP/UDP port it is
using to send notifications of Sent. Failed and Received faxes,
plus other messages. This removes the need for any
manual changing of the 'broadcast' port to be used in the
client.
