The NetCFax Online Information System

This page provides information to help you understand
what the Roaming Profiles are, and how to create and use them.

BACK TO INDEX PAGE

As you probably already realize by now, the NetCFax client normally stores the  login account configuration data and address books for each separate account locally. (on the machine you are using).

However, this is not all it can do..........

For a long time now, Microsoft Windows has provided what they call Roaming Profiles, and we have adopted the same name for our own similar system in NetCFax.

Once you are logged into a fax server, and check the "Tools menu" you will see an option labeled "Create/Update Roaming login profile". This will prompt you first, and then if you go ahead, it will save not only a complete copy of your current fax client configuration system, but also your address book data and personal details to that fax server.  If a roaming profile already exists on that fax server, you are warned and asked if you want to overwrite it with your current local configuration, address book entries and personal details.

NB - The fax server can DISABLE the support for this feature if the fax system administrator wishes to do so. If this is the case, you will be warned that the server does not provide Roaming profiles.

Once you save a roaming profile to the Fax Server, you are immediately prompted to log out and then re-login using the special "Login (Roaming)" button provided on the login window.

Now, wherever you happen to be, and no matter what particular machine or fax client you use to handle a faxing task, if you have a roaming profile on the server you are connecting to you can always use the "Login (Roaming)" button and then the fax client will always have your own personal configuration settings, plus you have immediate access to your own address book and personal details.

When you log out form the fax server again, the system does quite naturally and automatically saves all the current configuration settings and your address/personal details data back to the server again, so any changes you may have made to address books or the fax client configuration in that session will then be available when you next use your personal Roaming Profile next time you want to use it.

In fact, if your network has multiple NetCFax servers, these can even be configured to exchange this roaming profile data regularly, ensuring that your personal data is available no matter which fax server you may connect to.

This makes using the NetCFax client extremely easy even if you use whatever PC happens to be available to you, providing of course that it has a NetCFax client installed.

This is an especially powerful feature for mobile users who may have their fax system configured how they want it in the office, but do not have the same configuration on their laptop or other Windows device. If they save their Roaming Profile on the fax server while in the office, then they simply need to connect to the Internet with their laptop, and assuming the fax server machine is accessible to external connections, login immediately using that same roaming profile.
