In normal use, NetCFax needs to be
running before you can print to the fax printer we provide.
This is because NetCFax receives the request for a file name that
is to be used to save the new .TIF file from the printer driver.
In most cases, this is not a
problem at all, as you probably want to use the fax client to send
the fax out anyway, but we do understand that there are scenarios where some
form of automated file name can be returned to the printer driver
if NetCFax is not running. The most obvious one is where you
have your own applications that want to create faxable output
(.TIF files) that can then be sent to the NetCFax server, mostly
using our API or Command Line processor systems.
With the release of 2.70 and
3.10, we have introduced what we call the Remote Fax Printer.
The files required to install this are all saved in a sub folder
of the main fax server installation tree named \PrinterDriver, and
this folder contains a very detailed RTF file explaining exactly
how you can install, configure and use the new Remote fax printer
driver.
Due to
limitations of earlier releases of Windows, this system will not
work on Windows systems that are NOT NT based systems (such as
W95/98 or Windows ME machines).
We have provided all the files
that are needed, and although you need to do it manually it really
is a relatively simple task to install this new fax printer
driver.
If you need to do so for any
reason, you can even install this printer in addition to the
normal fax server or fax client fax printers as well, allowing
faxes to be created even if NetCFax is not running. The
documentation provided also explains the ramifications of this in
detail.
