Many computer modems work very
well, providing you only have one or possibly two modems
installed, but if you try to install multiple internal or external
modems, the results are often less than satisfactory to say the
very least.
Why this should be when Windows
can (in theory at least) support up to 66 modems/COM ports is a
bit of a mystery, but it appears that in most cases, it is the
modem drivers provided by the manufacturers of these modems that
are at the root of the problem, as most of them seem unable to
handle multiple modems concurrently, even if they are all
identical modems.
So another strategy is needed if
you need to have NetCFax controlling several modems, and that
strategy is of course a little more expensive than individual
modems.
The solution is of course a good
quality multi port board, of which there are quite a few
available. Most of these boards are just that, typically
using an internal PCI slot in your PC. The typical
configurations available are 2 ports, 4 ports or 8 ports per
board.
NetCFax should work happily with
any good multi port board, but please note that we do not as yet
provide support for the specialist "high end " boards
such as those from BrookTrout and others.
So, if you need to have more than
one modem in use with NetCFax, we strongly advise you to research
these boards, as although it will cost more initially, the
overall savings in terms of problems with modems etc will soon be
recouped.
NetCFax is already working with MainPine
to gain approval, the manufacturers of the high quality RockForce
range of multi port modem boards, so we recommend that you
look at their web site ( http://www.mainpine.com
) if you want to consider purchasing a device that should work well with NetCFax
the RockForce boards are
available as internal PCI or PCI-X boards with 2, 4 or 8 COM
ports. Multiple boards can also be installed if required to
increase available modems to whatever number you require.
NetCPlus is also working
with other multi port board manufacturers to get their approval for
the use of their boards with our fax system at the time of writing this page.
