So that you know, A "faxable file" is
simply an image file in TIFF format (for the technically minded
they are CCITT Group 3 compression to be precise) and all faxes
are of course only black & white, as faxes cannot handle color
in documents. Even a gray scale image is NOT the same thing,
and cannot be faxed unless it is converted to a Black & White
image first.
The TIF format is also probably
the most complex format available on Windows PC's today, as it
covers so many different internal formats.
Using Drag & Drop
NetCFax Pro & PRO+ (only) supports the standard Windows Drag & Drop
of files from Windows Explorer to several of the server and client
windows (if you have this option enabled) Unfortunately it
is simply not possible to Drag & Drop all types of files in
this way, because complex data such as that created by Microsoft
Word, Excel, and many other similar applications MUST be converted
to a faxable file format using the fax printer. However, you
can Drag & Drop any standard text files, which are usually
quite easily identified because have file
suffixes such as .TXT .DAT .INI and others. In fact the Drag &
Drop system in NetCFax even provides special support to let you

the (alternative) Microsoft Word format files that have .RTF
suffixes. Therefore, if you choose to save your Word files in
the .RTF
format, rather than the normal DOC format, you can then use Drag
& Drop to have NetCFax create a faxable file directly from these files.
However, depending on the version
of Microsoft Office that you have available, if you have Office
2003 or later, this actually does support remote printing
correctly (at long last) so if you drag a Word DOC file to the
client, Word is spawned correctly, handles the printing to the ax
client printer, and then closes itself again, so you can then
simply drag and drop Word files to any of the fax client windows
that allow you to do so.
We have also provided special
support for Acrobat PDF files, so you can Drag & Drop these
onto the NetCFax main windows, but of course, you need to have
Adobe Acrobat installed (and its location configured in NetCFax) as we need to shell the "print"
command to Acrobat in the background to have it print the data to
the fax printer driver.
In both the above situations, a
window is usually displayed telling you what is happening, and
this is also used to report any errors that may occur in the
process.
If you do this with a PDF file, a
special window is displayed, and what happens is that NetCFax runs
Adobe Acrobat (silently if possible) and makes it print the PDF to the NetCFax
fax printer. There is however one problem that can be caused
by this (this only occurs with some versions of Acrobat) as
Acrobat may not close itself down again after printing. If
this occurs, you will need to close it down manually by checking
your task bar for the familiar Acrobat icon. This is due to
a bug in the Adobe Acrobat published interface, which is acknowledged
by Adobe. If you leave Acrobat open, you will not be able to
access that PDF with anything else until you close it, as Acrobat
holds the file open.
Using the Send to context menu
option
This is almost identical to the Drag and Drop functionality
described above.
IMPORTANT - You cannot use the
Drag &Drop or Send-To features if you are using the Fax Client
under a Windows RDP session.
GENERAL INFORMATION
If you have other TIF files on your computer that you know are in
the correct (B&W, faxable) format, you can also Drag &
Drop these without problems.
