IMPORTANT - THE INFORMATION PRESENTED ON THE USE OF THE COVER PAGE
EDITOR APPLIES SPECIFICALLY AND ONLY TO ITS USE WITH NETCFAX.
ITS USE FOR ANY OTHER APPLICATION IS NOT COVERED IN ANY WAY.

The Microsoft Cover page template editor is installed by the NetCFax Server and can be run from the 'Fax Cover Page Template Editor' options provided on the Tools menu of the fax server. It is not available for download from this web site.

Creating Cover pages for NetCFax

Because NetCFax uses an industry standard format for it's fax cover pages (The same one used by Microsoft and shipped with the Windows 98 operating system), it is very easy to create your own personal or corporate designs for the fax cover pages used by NetCFax.

But because we have decided it simply was not necessary to support all of the data fields that can be added to a cover page template by the Microsoft cover page editor there are a few things you need to be aware of.

All of the NetCFax cover pages are located in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 folder when you are running the NetCFax server on most versions of Windows ( The exceptions are Windows 98 or Windows ME, in which case they can be found in WINDOWS\SYSTEM ).

You can use the File - Open menu option to edit any of the available cover pages by navigating to the relevant folder and selecting any of the files with .CPE suffixes you will see listed there. When you have finished editing a file, it should be saved back to the correct folder automatically, but it you have perhaps created a totally new cover page, you must remember to :-

a) Save it to the correct folder as shown above, and

b) Ensure it uses a recognized name so that it replaces an existing CPE file in there. If you do not use one of the four standard names it will definitely not be used !

The four standard cover page names are :-

CPNORMAL.CPE
CPINFORMATION.CPE
CPCONFIDENTIAL.CPE
CPURGENT.CPE

NB - You CANNOT use your own names for these cover pages, you must replace one of these original files with your own version once you are ready to do so.

The following fields types are the ONLY ones that will be recognized by NetCFax, and therefore have data in them from the information entered in the fax creation wizard when you send a fax, so please remember this when designing your NetCFax cover pages.

If you include any of the other fields that are available in the cover page editor, they are simply ignored by NetCFax.

All these fields are found under the INSERT Menu -

The Recipient entries that are used are :

Name
Company
Fax Number

The Sender's entries that are used are :

Name
Company
Fax Number
Voice number (Office)

The Message entries that are used are :

Subject
Date/Time Sent
Number of pages
Notes/Comments

We believe these are all that are usually required to create sensible and attractive fax cover pages, and we hope this enables you to easily create/modify the Fax cover pages you want NetCFax to use. ?

USING AN IMAGE ON YOUR COVER PAGE (LOGO ETC)

You can ONLY insert one single image, such as your corporate logo, but ths may be anywhere at all on the page, and can be sized to whatever size you want it, including as a complete background over the whole page if you want to use one to do this. This option is found on the Insert menu under Object. Select the "Bitmap image" entry in the list and then click the "Create from file" radio button at the left to let you browse your hard disk for the image you want placed on your cover page.  We recommend you do not check the "Show as icon" option, as that is all that will appear on your fax cover pages.

Check the "Create from file" option at the left, then click the Browse button that will appear as shown below, which loads a standard Windows file browse window will be displayed to let you find any BMP files on your hard disk :-

Simply find any BMP file you want to use and select it in the normal way.  It will be placed in the cover page editor for you.

NB- Because virtually all faxes use only Black or White pixels (Monochrome), any (BMP) image you select MUST already be a BLACK AND WHITE IMAGE, (not gray scale or colored). If you use a gray scale or colored image, the fax will just have a solid black shape wherever you placed this image.

IMPORTANT - DO NOT TRY to include more than one BMP image, as this will cause the fax server engine to crash and it will also very probably corrupt your faxes database making it unusable.  You can however use a bitmap that is as large as the whole page, which allows you to create an "image background" for the entire page if you wish to do so, and then you can easily "fit" your page entries to the bitmaps positioning.

To help you understand these cover page templates a little more easily, we have also provided a few different sample cover pages that can be found in the same folder as the cover page editor itself, which is the "Cover Page Editor" sub folder in the NetCFax folder tree. You can load and modify these as much as you wish, but if you want to use one, don't forget to save it to the correct SYSTEMxx folder with one of our recognized names and a CPE suffix, such as cpurgent.cpe, or any of the other three recognized names.
