Because of the way that Microsoft have implemented Windows there are a few things you need to be aware of before trying to use the old configuration and data from a previous NetCFax server system in a new installation. The first and most important factor is that the new fax server MUST be installed in exactly the same drive and folder / sub folder as the original one. If you do not do so, the fax engine will NOT BE ABLE to find your original faxes. If the above condition is satisfied, please read on... Virtually al of the fax server's configuration data is stored in a special sub folder under the main installation folder. This folder is named \DATA\RAW You do of course need to ensure that BOTH FAX SERVERS ARE CLOSED DOWN BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS. 1 - Copy all files from the original \DATA\RAW in to the same folder in the new installation. 2 - Copy the other sub folders you will find under the \DATA folder if you want to retain your backups. 3 - Copy the sub folders you will find under \DATA\RAW to the new system as well, including their contents. 4 - Copy the \CABINET sub folders to the same place in the new system, including their contents, as these are your faxes. 5 - Check for the following files in the original systems main install folder - FAXLOG32.DBF, FAXLOG32.FPT and FAXLOG32.CDX. If found, proceed to Step 7. 6 -Check for the following files in the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 folder - FAXLOG32.DBF, FAXLOG32.FPT and FAXLOG32.CDX. If found, proceed to Step 7. 7 - Copy the files above to the SAME FOLDER in the new installation, but ONLY if files of the same name already exist in the new installation. If they do not, check for them in the other folder as shown above. If the new system has them there, copy the old ones to that folder instead. The above steps should mean that the major parts of your new systems configuration options are reset to those used previously. It should also allow the new system to access all of your original faxes. We hope this helps you reconfigure the majority of your new Fax Server Service installation's settings as painlessly as possible. |
